Redesigning a digital newspaper where technology drives growth—not friction
Vozpópuli is an independent digital newspaper founded in 2011, which has established itself as a leading reference in the Spanish news landscape.
Over the years, it has experienced significant growth, reaching 4.5 million unique users, nearly 14 million monthly visits, and an average daily audience of 350,000 readers.
01
The Challenge
The project involved rethinking both sides of the product ecosystem:
The public-facing platform
The reading experience required better hierarchy, navigation, and visual consistency to help users consume large amounts of information more intuitively.
The internal editorial tool
The newsroom needed a more efficient publishing system capable of supporting concurrent workflows, faster updates, and growing editorial demands.

02
The Solution
The redesign of Vozpópuli established a more structured and scalable framework for delivering daily news, improving content discovery and navigation across the platform.
The experience was refined through a streamlined typographic system, a more cohesive color palette, and a clearer information hierarchy — resulting in a more consistent and accessible product.

04
The Framework
01 — Analysis
We met with all departments to understand the situation, define a collaborative workflow, and establish project goals.

02 — Thesis
As a starting point, we conducted a thorough study of other newspapers, both national and international. This gave us a global and detailed perspective on how different media outlets were structuring their websites and delivering content to users.

03 — Praxis
We collected and analyzed user data to better understand their needs. This research resulted in a detailed report, which became the foundation for setting objectives, strategies, and a concrete action plan.

04
Phases

01
Presentation
We met with all departments to understand the situation, define a collaborative workflow, and establish project goals.
02
Definition
In this phase, we began to break down the website and create a low-fidelity design proposal to align on direction.
03
Production
With approval from all teams, we began designing. Each element was defined modularly and later assembled into full templates.
04
Delivery
We prepared all materials for the technical team, along with documentation and editable files for hand-off.
05
Follow-up
We worked alongside their internal team to resolve any questions or issues during the roll out and implementation.
06
The Front page
One of the project’s key challenges was redesigning the homepage—a critical section for any newspaper.
A well-structured homepage delivers a simple, efficient browsing experience, helping users quickly find relevant information and significantly influencing their behavior on the site.
